Lean’ is an ethos and working method whereby everything and everybody in the company is focused on creating value streams in all processes, through the elimination of waste (‘muda’). Lean stands for maximum added value to the customer, achieved at minimal effort. It enables product quality to rise and production costs to fall, improving overall profitability. It is a proven method which, in contrast to traditional forms of efficiency improvement, focuses on smarter rather than harder work. Elimination of waste and inherently valueless activities leads to enormous improvements. It ensures high quality, low costs, more reliable as well as shorter response times and more pleasant working conditions! We observe Lean applications particularly in organisations where assembly or the linking of multiple processing stages and parties play a key role, as in the automotive, metal and electronics industries; nowadays also in the health care and service sectors. |
